Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
Intra-uterine Insemination (IUI) is a form of artificial insemination and involves the injection of a concentrated semen sample into the woman’s uterine cavity via the cervix to improve the chances of conception. This is a simple procedure that is usually performed on an outpatient bases.
Once ovulation has been confirmed, the semen sample is prepared in the laboratory to harvest a good number of motile, normal looking sperm. The prepared sperm is then carefully placed into the woman’s uterus trough a fine catheter allowing more sperm to reach the egg. The procedure takes only a few minutes and patients are able to return to regular activities immediately after the procedure.
